Welcome

Specialist depth in the Shire, without the city trip.

Bangor Medical Centre opened in 2018 to bring the SMSG model to the Sutherland Shire. Family general practice sits at the centre of what happens here, wrapped in a visiting specialist rhythm that gives our patients access to consultant physicians without waiting behind a hospital outpatient list.

Family GPs work here alongside a range of multi-disciplinary specialists and allied health professionals. All are independent practitioners. Bangor provides the premises, the reception team and the coordination between disciplines. The clinical decisions belong to the clinicians.

Family GPs, visiting consultant specialists and coordinated allied support across counselling and dietetics, all working from the same file so your care stays joined up.

Family GPs

Family GPs, many languages.

Our GPs at Bangor are independent practitioners delivering their own care from the Bangor premises. Several cross-book with Earlwood, so if your regular clinician isn't in on the day, someone else on the team may have your file open and ready. Between them the team speaks Mandarin, Shanghainese and Arabic alongside English. If you'd prefer a GP who speaks your first language, our reception team can help you match.

Allied health

Counselling and dietetics.

Our Bangor allied health includes counselling with English and Portuguese language support, and Accredited Practising Dietetics with English, Cantonese and Mandarin. You can see them independently or on a GP referral for chronic disease management or Better Access to Mental Health.

Services at Bangor

Family medicine plus specialist depth.

Because Bangor combines general practice with a five-specialty visiting roster, the service list here is wider than a typical Shire GP practice.
Booking, prescriptions and referrals

Every practitioner here is bookable online.

Repeat prescriptions and referral renewals can be requested through Automed without needing to come in. Most are turned around within three business days.
Fees and billing

Clear on cost before you book.

Bulk billing
Billing at Bangor follows a mixed-billing model. Our registrar GPs and some of our specialist GPs bulk-bill routine standard consultations, and ongoing patients seen within the last twelve months are typically bulk-billed for routine visits. Health assessments and GP Chronic Condition Management Plans are usually bulk-billed. Other appointment types are generally privately billed, with Medicare rebate applying to eligible services and leaving a gap payment. Fees vary by practitioner, since each clinician sets their own billing arrangement as an independent practitioner. Individual billing details are on each clinician's profile page, and reception confirms your specific fee and out-of-pocket when you book.
Group fee schedule
For general information about consultation fees, procedure costs and how billing works across all three SMSG centres, see our full Fees & Billing page.
Medicare and private health
Bring your Medicare card, concession card, and any private health details to your first appointment. Rebates are processed on the day where possible.
